Topaz Video AI Enhancement

Topaz analyses neighbouring frames and uses models suited to older analogue and digital video. Applied carefully, it can reduce distracting defects while preserving a natural home-video appearance.

• Deinterlacing: convert interlaced video fields into cleaner progressive frames and reduce comb-like edges on movement.
• Noise reduction: calm tape noise, colour speckling and compression artefacts without making faces look waxy.
• Detail and sharpness: improve soft-looking edges and make people, clothing and scenery easier to see.
• Upscaling: create a cleaner HD viewing file from a good-quality standard-definition capture.
• Stabilisation and motion: reduce unwanted camera shake and improve difficult movement where the source allows.

Every tape is assessed individually. Strong processing can invent false detail or create motion artefacts, so we favour a believable result over an over-processed image.

DaVinci Resolve Restoration

DaVinci Resolve gives us precise control over the colour, brightness and presentation of the captured video. Possible improvements include:

• Colour correction: reduce colour casts and weak or uneven colour caused by ageing tape and camera conditions.
• Exposure and contrast: balance dark and light scenes while retaining usable shadow and highlight detail.
• Shot matching: make colour, brightness and saturation more consistent between scenes.
• Flicker and chroma clean-up: lessen distracting brightness changes and coloured noise where practical.
• Framing: straighten, crop and reframe untidy tape edges or analogue overscan when this improves the presentation.
• Finishing: prepare a consistent MP4 or AVI file with appropriate levels, aspect ratio and playback settings.

AI cannot recover picture or sound that was never recorded or has been completely lost. Severe tape dropouts, mistracking, head-switching noise, heavy blur and badly over- or under-exposed scenes may only be partly improved.
